Mark La Salle of the chronicle staff feels that Titanic was a story that simplified the tragedy at hand, and awkwardly tells a feeble love story between two adolescents that probably couldn't define the word love rather than know what it truly feels like.
"Cameron's offering is pretty weak: It's two kids on a really big boat. And a story about how bad things can happen to nice people. His writing of the love story is awkward, even embarrassing."
