If you love the horror film genre, this article describes how this genre was shaped to be what it is today. The horror genre is as old as film itself. First horror films were made in the 1890s. Their success soared thru the 1930s and 40s, with movies like: Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolf Man. In the 1950s, and 60s saw movies such as: The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Mummy, and Night of the Living Dead. The 70s and 80s gave rise to the now popular characters: Freddy Kruger, Michael Meyers, and Chucky. The horror genre today is more or less a blend of new ideas and remakes of classic films of earlier decades.
