The following link I have attached is on mistakes based on the film Titanic. They have taken certain scenes from the film and put them up for people to vote if they agree with their statement or not. Anyone can view the website and vote as well, but in order to vote one must become a member. As I was reading them I realized things of the film that I had never paid attention to before. Titanic

The author begins the review with a little description on the boat Titanic. He talks about the indestructibility of the boat. According to Roger the movie was a 200 million dollar movie. He explains how the movie was intelligent and it was flawless. Basically the movie titanic is a tragic drama story. It is about two culturally different lovers. Later the one of the two lovers meets his tragic end in order to save his beloved. The movie was constructed well.

Titanic a bad movie?

Nathan Johnson the reviewer on the movie explains that the movie is bad except for the amazing special effects. The acting he says was terrible on Leonardo DiCaprio's behalf. Nathan says he overacted to many scenes but he's bad acting was he was given bad screenplays according to Nathan. All in all, Nathan viewed the movie as not so good.

Cameron's Masterpiece

In Joe Chamberlain's review he talks about how James Cameron makes one of the greatest love films. Chamberlain wonders how anyone can spend over 200 million dollars on a film especially a film that everyone knows the ending to. He questions director and writer James Cameron on poorly spending his money and how he did not bother hiring big names to star in his film. After Chamberlain saw the movie he wonders to himself how he could have ever questioned James Cameron on his masterpiece. Chamberlain says after having huge success with his Terminator movies Cameron was on his way out of his film making career that is until Titanic was released. He now refers to Cameron "As being among the greatest directors of all time. Chamberlain also comments on the amazing special effects and knows exactly where the extra money went towards. Cameron truly hit a bulls eye making this film.

Here I have linkend to a review by Jim Hull. He tells how the story of the Titanic is so real that it seems like you're there aboard th ill-fated ship. He states that "Cameron lets the disaster strike us with full impact." He tells how Cameron was so excellent at creating this "effects classic" movie. Hull states the the movie studios deserve very penny they've earned from this film.

This is a movie review by Andrea Chee. Chee gave the movie 4 out of 5 stars. Chee talks about the characters in the movie, the plot, and the film director. Chee describe's the director James Cameron's film of the Titanic a masterpiece. Chee also, talks about how much money this movie cost to make with all of the special effects this movie put in for the cost. She also talks about how the two main character's did a great job how making this movie. The movie review is really good to help the audience to know what the movie was about and it gives some information about the history of the Titanic at the same time. Titanic: A Schizophrenic Film

It was interesting to read how Rod Armstrong described the romantic epic Titanic, as a schrizophrenic film. He goes on explaining how in his mind, the film is actually two films. Armstrong describes the film as "a trite romantic drama about young love and a spellbinding disaster flick which spares no expense." He explains how when viewing the film, he is always itching for the boat to start sinking. His strong criticism on the film opposes the opinions of other film critics. While other critics complement the film, Armstrong states how the film's script is mediocre, with just adequate acting, and is just too long.

Titanic

When searching on the internet i found a review of the Titanic on the Los Angeles Times web site. The review was written by Kenneth Turan. The beginning of the review answers the question, "what does $200 million buy?". The movie had the largest film budget of any movie ever made. The more than three hour movie used a 775 ft. scale model of the real ship. The scale model was sunk in a seventeen million gallon pool. You can just imagine why it cost so many millions to make this film. Kenneth Turan later introduces James Cameron as the producer of the film. He mentions some of his other works. Turan criticizes Cameron on his film. He believes that writing this kind of movie was not in his abilities. Cameron goes on to say that the movie "reeks of phoniness and lacks even minimal originality". I chose to post this review because it was the first one that I saw that had negative things to say about the movie.

Titanic; who lives, and who dies...

If you have not seen Titanic, well you are missing out on one of the best love stories depicted on film. Not only does the movie possess great effects and acting, it is also a great way to show class struggle during that time. The main character, Rose De Witt Bukater, played by Kate Winslet, is forced to marry a man because of his money, while Jack Dawson, played by Leonardo DiCaprio lives with everything tied to his back. The only reason they get the chance to encounter one another is because of a lucky game of poker Jack happened to win five minutes before the ship set off.
The movie may start off slow at first but minutes before the actualyl sinking of the ship occurs is when things take a turn for the better. With this incident, we can see the true value of wealth as they were given first priority on the lifeboats; most half full. Those unfortunate were left with no other choice but to throw themselves overboard, trying to keep themselves from freezing to death.

Where did the footage come from?

This blog talks about how recently, back in August, Reuters made a report of Russian submarines planting the planting their flag on the seabed underneath the North Pole. They had a whole article with pictures and video. But, the problem was pointed out by a 13 year old Finnish school boy, that the footage released by Reuters was very similar to that of what is shown in the movie Titanic, which was taken by two Finnish submersibles. It is just another one of the things that makes you think and question the credibility of even such major news organizations such as Reuters. Just something to think about.

Even More Titanic Parody Videos

Ahhh. The time-less art of re-cutting movie clips into something hilarious. You have to love it. I found two funny clips on YouTube that poke fun of the movie's dramatic circumstances. While they are meant to get laughs, I think at least one of the clips serves as a way to highlight the many qualities of the film. It is obviously a romance film at its core, but Titanic also has some thriller and comedic qualities.

One of the clips is animated. The other is put together from actual scenes from the film Titanic.

Movie & Tragedy... equally worth?

We have to admit that at the ending of the movie Titanic we start to get a little teary. Come on, it's not only romantic it's tragic! Ofcoarse most guys and even girls wont tear or even admit to crying. But what if I gave you a deeper insight on the Titanic, some real facts?

On April 10, 1912 first class parlor suites for The Titanic cost an equivalent of $90,000 today. That day 2,227 passengers got on board, 705 of those passengers survived. Only one 1st class child died when 49 steerage children died. Did you remember one of Rose's conversations with Thomas Andrew when she asked him how many lifeboats there were? Well, not enough was a correct answer! The ship could have carried 32 but only carried 20 because the extra 12 hid the ship's beauty. A law actually required for there to be 962 lifeboat seats, they carried 1,178, when in reality 2,708 were needed. As shown in the movie, Thomas Andrew gets upset when he realizes that the lifeboats were not carrying enough people. When a lifeboat could have carried 64 passengers, it only carried 28. 472 lifeboat seats were not used. Remember how the character Cal manages to safe himself by taking a girl he found and pretending he was all she had to get on the lifeboat? Well that was made up. A true and similar fact about a coward aboard the Titanic is that about a man named Daniel Buckley. This man dressed himself up as a woman! It was also true that the band played to calm the people down, they actually played minutes before the ship took them with it. One of their last songs played was "Songe D'Automne." If you payed close attention, and if you remember there were a couple dogs shown in the movie. Well many dogs actually rode the Titanic but only 2 survived. Ofcoarse maybe the tragedy could have been avoided or not been so tragic, if only they listened to the warnings they were given by other ships about the icebergs ahead, if they hadn't exceeded the ships top speed, if they carried more lifeboats, and if other ships near by hadn't ignored their calls.

As I read all these facts and put them together, I realized something quite interesting, disturbing but interesting. The Titanic carried hundreds of wealthy passengers. Do you know how much money they were all worth on the ship combined? 600 million... Does this ring a bell? Yes, that was as much as what the movie was worth!

Titanic Sequel?

Is there anything left to be said about Jack and Rose's epic love story? A YouTube user thinks the Titanic movie didn't give enough closure to this love story (or he was bored after watching the movie). With the use of movie editing software, a couple of Leonardo DiCaprio movies and some time, YouTube user Swiped has created his own sequel to Titanic. It's a little far-fetched considering the fact that Jack dies at the end of Titanic, but it's cool and interesting none-the-less. Give it a look.

My Heart Will Go On

Every movie has that one song that people remember and constantly sing to after they have left the theater. Well, Titanic is a perfect example of that. Back in the 90's when Titanic came out, every one was singing Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On. My link leads to a music video of My Heart Will Go On, but instead of this being a music video of the singer, this video is a collage of clips of Rose and Jack from the beginning to the end. This song captured the true emotions of Jack and Rose, the main characters of the movie, who fall in love, but where then driven away by the sinking of the Titanic. When the Titanic sink, Jack died and Rose was not able to live the life she wanted to with him. This song tells the story of how Rose and Jack tell each other they love each other even though one of them is not around. When people lose the one they love, they find ways to be with each other even if it is through a dream. At the end of the music video, it goes to the clip of the movie, where Rose is on the boat heading towards America. A man who is taking names of the passengers, ask Rose her last name, she responds by saying "Dawson." Even though Jack is not alive, she wants his last name because she knows that if he had not died, they would have gotten married. Titanic is a romantic movie with a beautiful love song that clearly conveys Jack and Rose's feelings toward each other.

This is a film review by Anthony Leong in 1998. Leong discusses Titanic's actual story, the films director, script, and actors. Of the novel and of course the film it's self accompanied by may quotes from the film. i also like the review because he talks about how the film was directed, "The story then jumps back to the 10th of April 1912, with the boarding of the 'largest work of man in all of history'." The way this review is set up allows the reader to not only read his opinion on the film but they are given the history of Titanic its self. This review will help inform us as well as see new things involving the context of the film.

Titanic - Music To You Ears

Minus the over played song by Celin Diol "My Heart Will Go On," the score of Titanic could be named one of the most impressive to ever be written. A review by Christopher Coleman, which I have linked too, explains in more detail why the score makes such a huge expression. Though they add dialoge from the movie which could have been left out, at times it really adds to the experience.
Who wouldn't expect a great score for such a great movie?

The Unsinkable

The RMS Titanic was deemed unsinkable by its makers and its trusting passengers. However, it is known that the ship could not live up to its name. The movie Titanic is not shy when it comes to expressing the realities of what happened and in also expressing the culture of that time period. I have linked to a short movie review where the author mentions the theme of class struggles and all the while gives a big thumbs up for the movie.

Re-enactment... but with BUNNIES!!!

Titanic to most people is the best romantic movie made since, I don't know Casablanca? Well I'm not saying it isn't, but did you know it could be hilarious? The movie was so good that there is a parody that is thirty seconds long and is hilarious! All great movies have parodies and this one doesn't change that. I BEG YOU TO CLICK ON IT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. If not for the animation at least watch it for the bunnies.

The Mojor Motion Picture vs. Facts

When someone watches TITANIC they are probably thinking that they are watching a true historic film. And they are right. This website compares the film to the actual historical facts. And as it turns out the only real difference is that there was no Jack Dawson or Rose Calvert on the titanic. As for the rest of the characters, most were actually passengers on the Titanic. Captain Edward John Smith, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and John Jacob Astor (to name a few) were passengers. An interesting fact is that Rose's' character was derived from a real character, Rose Abbot, who was the only surviving woman rescued from the water. These are just a few facts out of the many given to you at this site.

Resurrecting Titanic

Not only does Cameron's masterpiece, The Titanic, hold the box office record of all time, it has also won over 48 awards. The movie's cinematography is compared to Cameron's earlier works such as True Lies and T2; his depiction of the tragic ending of the Titanic far excelled the graphic technology of the time at the movie's release. The magnificent special effects are not what made this film such a success; the adventurous and romantic story and unique characters made The Titanic a truly gripping film worth its dozens of awards.

Four Stars for The Titanic

We all know that The Titanic is one of the most well known romance movies to this day. It actually gives romances some hope of being good, at least in some people's eyes ( personally not mine ). Anyways, searching around the internet i realized that everyone was going to be talking about mainly the Oscars it won and how amazing that is.

So as i looked i just picked a good movie review/description. The author of this starts off by talking about how it starts in the present, and then moves on to explaining the rest of the movies. He talks about the different characters in the movie and what actors played them also. He finishes off by making some comments on the acting, and the movie as a whole and as a romance.

A Titan of Awards

WOAH! Did you know that this beastly movie brought in 48 awards?! From top box office award to best foreign film, this movie basically won all the awards it possibly could. Titanic is one of the romantic movies that actually made a come back and scored a point for the Romance genre. I'm not a big buff of these romance movies but if you are, and want to watch something similar to it, then watch The Notebook. If you like the idea of a big sinking ship then you could also watch Poseidon.

Iceberg Right Ahead! A Review of Titanic

This review of Titanic is by Joe Tracy, Publisher of Hollywood Lot Magazine. The review is about how he wasn't impressed with Titanic as a love story, but was definitely impressed by it as a story about a ship. He goes on to giving his opinions to why the movie was a failure as a love story. I somewhat do agree with this reviewer, this movie wasn't all that romantic and not very touchy as a love story. When I compare Titanic to A Walk to Remember, Titanic seems more of an infatuation story and like just a summer love thing. Overall I reallyliked the movie. I enjoyed it a lot and was hooked on it till the end.

Titanic Doesn't Sink at the Box Office

The Titanic comic review, provided by Henrik Svlow, comments on the film's box office success being a fluke, and that "Cameron paid for the Oscars." The film did not impress the critics, nor did it sweep Svlow of his feet. He goes on to comment on its pathetic soap-opera style suggesting that the dialogue was weak, choppy, and too staged. The big budget shouldn't have gone to the set, but for a new writer. All in all, one can't deny the epic romance between Jack and Rose. One thinks it may be silly, but we can't turn away from DiCaprio's charm. The film still holds your attention even though we already know (at least we would hope) that the big bad iceberg is about to do the ship some justice. The only reason people saw the film, according to Svlow, was because of other moviegoers flawed opinions.

Trouble with Love Stories

The author Martha Brockenbrough talks about the trouble with love and how it is talked about in books. She explains forbidden love and that it is a classic love story formula. Another part of the love story is love at first sight. Also, Martha said that loves stories tend to break down to say that the one or both lovers die. She says that doesn't happen in real life. Later on she goes on to say that real life love is the love that happens when you are in a 50 year marriage.

Titanic ....Award Worthy??

This link provides us with people's everyday opinions regarding the movie Titanic. Mixed opinions are represented in this which makes understanding the movie easier. It talks about how Titanic's special effects are better than that of any other romantic movie. Mentioned, also, are all the words Titanic has one for its realistic and touching acting and directing. On the negative hand these reviews mention how the actors did not act like people of 1912 would. It also states how third and first class are only pictured, but there really is no second class (middle class) people shown to give us a balance of rich and poor. It also describes how the plot is fairly predictable. In my opinion that is the problem with romance movies these days. You can usually always end up predicting what the end result will be, making the movie dull. All reviewers seem to agree on the fact that the Titanic is a great example of a romance story and you will walk away from the movie satisfied. I agree that Titanic is one of the greatest movies of the romantic genre and it also leaves you knowing how devastating the sinking of the Titanic really was. We get a good sense of the morals of love and following your heart from the characters Rose and Jack. We also learn the moral that money cannot always save you and make you happy. As said by reviewer, niterider003, " anybody who rates this movie below a five is retarded and should all be pissed on."

So who decided to give THIS film an oscar?

Now do not get me wrong, I am not entirely against Titanic. The movies displays some of the best cinematic scenes I have ever witnessed, and of course I am just as much of a Leonardo DiCaprio fan as Elton John. However, I would never classify this movie as science-fiction for obvious reasons: (1.) Jack and Rose were fictional characters (which severely disappointed me when I found out at the age of twelve). (2.) There is absolutely no way Rose would EVER subject herself to the horrendous pseudo-man that is Cal. Ugly does not even describe him. And (3.) It seems a bit sadistic to turn such a tragic historical event into a love story.
Alas, my opinion does not matter. However, I was able to find a similar opinion. The link presents a movie review written by Nathan Johnston, who works for Amazon.com. I found his review to be hilariously witty and sarcastic. For example, he stated: "I would not watch this movie again... EVER. Even if Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford told me that they would both have sex with me I would still not see this movie again."

I would not go as far as to say I would never watch this film again, because I truly do appreciate the message it was trying to convey, it would just be nice to get an original love story once in a while. Is that so hard to ask?

Titanic is known as one of the best romantic tragedies of all time. While searching throught the web I found a review of Titanic created by Roger Ebert. He talks about how the movie begins in present time when finding the Titanic underwater. He then goes into talking bout the film in gerneral and the characters. He gives quotes from the movie such as "I can still smell the fresh paint". I believe that he gave a good review on the movie and gave credit where credit is do. Titanic is my favorite movie ever, how do you feel about it? You be the judge.

Top Romance Movies

Basically this website gives the top romance movies of all time. They give the name of the the title and information of the movies in general. Most of the movies that they show are before 2000. I believe that this shows that most romance has gone out the window. Almost a third of them are musicals and before the year 1950. I found a Titanic movie review by Anthony Leong. In his review he quotes the movie including one from the beginning where the old Rose says, “It's been 84 years, and I can still smell the fresh paint. The china had never been used. The sheets had never been slept in. Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.” Leong says how the director of Titanic, James Cameron, is best known for his sci-fi films. Who would have thought he would have written Titanic?! He then gives a summary of the film.

The movie Titanic is very popular and there is a ton of information out on the web. I have found a review by a popular reviewer, Roger Ebert. In his review of the movie Titanic Ebert talks highly of the film saying, "It is flawlessly crafted, intelligently constructed, strongly acted and spellbinding." This one sentence captures his opinion of the film very well. He enjoyed all aspects of the film from the structure of the film and how it was made to the actors performances. Ebert discusses the characters by name and tells us about them. We also learn about the plot and get a clear description of what is to be expected from the film. Ebert also goes on to say that this type of film is hard to make at all and even harder to make it good. According to Ebert the film is made extremely well in all aspects and his overall rating of the movie was impeccable. I have also included a theatrical trailer of the movie which gives a good synopsis of the movies and shows the good acting that the film includes.

Titanic Trivia

Titanic, the classic love story between two people from opposites world. Here I found trivia about the film that you might not even know about. For example, the studio wanted Matthew McConaughey to play Jack, but James Cameron insisted on Leonardo DiCaprio. The famous movie line “I’m the king of the world!” was voted as the #100 movie quote by AFI. Save the Last Dance

In this movie it shows an interracial romance and how people react to it. The movie is about a white girl who moves to Chicago wanting to pursue her dream as a dancer and meets a black boy who also is a dancer and teaches her some of his dance moves. They start of as good friends but it leads to a serious relationship. Many people did not like the fact that they were together and so they always had to defend themselves and their relationship. I thought that this movie was really interesting and very touching. Reviewer Paul J. Williams thought that this movie was amazing and felt that the characters did an excellent job even though he feels that the subject and the story is old. The genre is romance and to many people, they feel as if there are no more original romance movies. But in my opinion it does not matter if the story is original because everytime a new romance comes out it gets better because they put more effort into the movie and it adds something new to the old story making it more dramatic and also interesting.

When Harry Met Sally

" What I'm saying is - and this is not a come-on in any way, shape or form - is that men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way." That quote from When Harry Met Sally is what makes this story a classic. Harry believe people of opposite-sex can't be friends where Sally believes they can. This theme plays back and forth through out the movie, and of course the theme makes it point. They end up falling for each other at the end of the movie, which is why, and a put it as my link to show, many poeple put it at the top of their list.

The Notebook

In this clip, it shows many elements that make up a romance. "The Notebook" is a movie that shows how two people in love, can get through anything. It shows the romantic part of the movie where everything seems perfect. But, it also shows the conflict between the two characters and how they seem to get past their conflict. Noah asks Allie why she never wrote back, and she tells him that she never got any of his mail and was waiting to here from him. Then they tell each other that it's still not over and then they make-out and end up making love for the first time. It shows the happily ever after ending. Through out all the conflict and the waiting that these lovers went through, it just shows that love overcomes everything. "The Notebook" is a perfect example of an amazing romantic film.

Top romantic movies for a good reason

This site talks about the top twenty five movies respective to the opinions of the author. Laura Dawn Lewis, the author of the website, believes that these movies embody the very nature of a romantic movie and are great movies to use to portray romance in cinema. For example, Laura Dawn Lewis says, "Each has strong story lines, incredible characters and showcase the dynamics of the romantic relationships between men and women. Kleenex is optional, though recommended" (Laura Dawn Lewis). The top movie in her list is the all-time favorite Gone with the Wind. This movie is just one of the multiple movies that she uses to showcase her knowledge in the area of romance and she does her job extremely well with lots of description in the synopsis of the movie. Along the movie Gone with the Wind there are other notable movie such as Doctor Zhivago, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Casablanca, which also happen to be high on her list. Walk to remember Romance?

In the beginning of this review, the author really points out with great despising statements about the movie. The author exclaims that it made him angry leaving the movie theater stating that it was a "shallow teen movie." Then he goes on explaining that this story is a romantic story of two children. It is about two culturally different lovers with a hint of tragedy. This movie is a true dramatic movie. Overall the author ends the review with a bad comment on the movie.

In this review, Stephen Miller begins by introducing the female actress Vivica A. Fox (Shante), and her ways of perfecting things. She alwasys has things going her way using different strategies. With her life going smoothly well, "Shante makes her own love connection with attorney Keith Fenton ( Morris Chestnut), a rising legal star and bona fide hunk". She's happy, because everything is going good; but trouble comes when he begins to break dates, she now suspets him having an affair outside of thier relationship, shante then comes up with a strategy titled "How to make your man behave in 10 days or less". Using this strategy, Shante tries to win him back; but unfortunately it doesn't work, because he has a secret weapon as well, a friend of his who advices him. At the end we find out that her 10 days strategy didn't do her any good, and neither did the advices he was given. They both give up the game playing and admit their love for eachother, and continued with their relationship smoothly.

A Walk to Remember...

A Walk to Remember is the 2002 box office hit staring pop singer Mandy Moore who plays Jamie Sullivan and Shane West who plays Landon Carter. The movie begins with a prank that goes wrong resulting in the hospitalization of a fellow student. Landon is therefore forced to participate in the school play and tutor disadvantaged children. Jamie and Landon have known eachother for many years but it was not until Landon realizes he needs help with his lines for the play that they begin to interact with one another. There is one catch; Jamie agrees to help Landon only if he promises not to fall in love with her. Of course Landon responds with a "no problem."
Everything seems to be going well for the two; in private of course. In public, Landon humiliates Jamie. Because of his actions, Jamie and Landon stop talking. Until, however, opening night. Once Landon saw Jamie in her dress he fell in love with her and kissed her right on stage. From then on, they were inseperable.
Jamie Finally tells Landon that she has Leukemia and has stopped responding to treatments. Knowing that she only has a limited time to live, Landon begins fulfilling goals she set for herself such as being in two places at once and building a telescope. Jamie eventually dies but not before the two get married in the same chapel her deceased mother got married in. Thus, topping Jamie's wish list. Landon too becomes a better person. He sets goals for himself to achieve like getting into law school. It was not until he went to visit Jamie's father that he realized he shouldn't be sorry for not granting Jamie's wish to witness a miracle before she passed. After all, he was that miracle.

Romance. Not to be Mistaken with Romantic Comedy.

In this filmography of the top 25 romantic movies to date, I was startled but not at all in disagreement when I saw films like Beauty & The Beast and Edward Scissorhands in the list. The top 25 according to this site includes the predictable contributions of Breakfast at Tiffany's and Jerry Maguire, but in my opinion was a litte more expansive in its definition of the "romantic" genre according to its selections. If I were to make a list, I think I would put Rocky in it, because it fits my idea of a romance, and not just because of the love sotry between Rocky and Adrian.

The creators of the list make sure to emphasize that it is a list of the best romantic dramas, which may have some comedic unertones, as opposed to the list being a top 25 greatest romantic comedies compilation with films consisting of some dramatic undertones. I think it is very wise of the to emphasize their idea of the romance, since with films like Good Luck Chuck and The Heartbreak Kid being all we have to look forward to in the new releases of a romantic genre, it is easy to get the genres twisted.

Its a Wonderful Life

This film is a classic example of romance in films. Directed by Frank Campra "Its a Wonderful Life" is a tear gerking romance that has been entertaining people for years. Review on Punch Drunk Love

In Roger Ebert's review on the romantic film, Punch Drunk Love, starring Adam Sandler, he explains how Sandler's character in this film is completely the opposite of most of the roles he has played in his other films. In his previous films, we have always seen him as a childish, and love-starved character. However, in Punch Drunk Love, Sandler's character is angry, sad, and desperate. The entire movie is unpredictable, as Sandler plays the role of Barry Egan, a damaged business executive with a violent temper. He meets Lena Leonard, a sweet executive who he later goes on a diner date with. They like each other right away. During the dinner, Barry gets up from his table, goes to the mens room, and breaks just about everything. Later in the film, Lena goes on a business trip to Hawaii. They surely have chemistry. Barry feels that this is a chance to get away from the mainland. So he simply buys a ticket to Honolulu and meets Lena. Here, the screen is filled completely with romantic colors.
At the end of Ebert's review, he states how the director Paul Thomas Anderson, refers to Punch Drunk Love as "an art house Adam Sandler film."

The Heartbreak Kid

Finally an R-rated romantic comedy truly worth watching! The star studded cast of the film include names like; Ben Stiller, Jerry Stiller, Rob Corddry and funny man Carlos Mencia. The plot takes place around a middle aged, San Francisco native Eddie Cantrow (Ben Stiller). Eddie is single and is tired of hearing about it from his immoral father "Doc" played by Jerry Stiller. After realizing he is too picky he is persuaded by his dad and Mac (Rob Corddry), a whipped husband, to look for a life mate. He then runs in completely by chance to what at the time seemed like the woman of his dreams Lila (Malin Akerman). After a short period of dating and a difficult situation Eddie decides to take the plunge. Shortly after things start to go south. Eddie gets second thoughts after a couple of "incidents" during his honeymoon. To make matters more difficult he runs into a charming southern woman Miranda(Michelle Monaghan). After spending time with her he decides that she is the one for him. This is where the real adventure begins for Eddie. All in all a great entertaining film that includes great humor along with a lot of romance.

The Rules of Romance

I found this website called Nassauweekly.com and read an article called "The Rules of Romance: Basically be an asshole, but not a douche bag". It was written by Maxine Maduka who came up with six rules of romance. I want to hear some girl's comments on the rules (#2) because I think some of them are pretty ridiculous. Anyway, If your a guy who's game needs a little boost this might/might not be the sight to read.

I searched the Internet for different ways to put romance into context and I found a couple of websites. They mostly listed romantic films and others personal websites full of love stories, poems, and love letters. But, I came across a website from ARRT, Adult Reading Round Table. This particular website listed different categories that identified the genre of romance. I choose this website since it is a study of the Romance Genre from the 1994-1995. Also, because it identifies romance characteristics and it leaves us with tips in developing a Romance Genre Study. So I share this website with you guys with the hope that you understand through this website the genre of romance.

Love+Death=Romantic

When your hear "romantic movie," you automatically think love, sex, innocence, and/or happily ever after. Well many movies can follow these thoughts, yet many others don't. Are those who don't follow these ideas succesful romantic movies? Why don't you ask the people who made Titanic, A Walk To Remember, Rappicini's Daughter, or Romeo and Juliet? All these movies and/or books consisted of both love and tragedy. I believe though, that tragedy was a key to make such movies succesful, a special element to show the love, the romance and all the elements that make up the meaning of love. If it wasn't for the tragic endings we wouldnt see what real love is, whether it was dying for the one they love or showing suffering as their loved one dies. No matter the movie, if love is involved, it is always one of the stronger themes. Now that I think about it, it is funny to think that love movies are succesful especially when death is involved. Never Been Kissed

Never Been Kissed was directed by Raja Gosnell and was produced in 1999. It was given three stars by highly acclaimed film critic, Roger Ebert. This film is about a young and lonely copy-editor (Drew Barrymore) for the Chicago Sun Times. She has aspirations to be a reporter and does not give up sending her boss new story ideas. One day during a staff meeting, the editor-in-chief, Rigfort (Garry Marshall), assigns her to pose as a high school student for her first story, an undercover feature. The aim of the story is to gain the trust of the pretty, popular girls who are stereotypically vain and intolerant of anyone who is not like them; and the high school heart-throb, Guy Perkins. At first, despite her best efforts and the support of her best friend at the paper, Anita (Molly Shannon), Josie reverts back to her geeky, misfit, high school persona. However, Josie learns how to not only fit in, but thrive. The real romance begins when Josie falls in love with one of her professors. He also falls for her but the whole time apparently thinks he is dealing with a seventeen-year-old school girl determined to do her best to fit in and achieve her goals. This film is a definite "HEA". It ends happily but leaves the audience guessing as to what path the professor ends up taking when he realizes the truth about Josie. 40 Days and 40 Nights

40 Days and 40 Nights is a good romance movie. It has the element of love in it. It's all about two people that just met falling for each other. The two people will go through many obstacles and some secrets that are hidden from each other. Even though they will have some fights, the ending of all romance movies will come to an end that they are happy for one another and they are in love with each other. Also, it is basically a happy ending for most romance movies like this movie.

For example someone in a relationship might have another love whether it is sports, cars or perhaps their job. The only question is how far are you willing to go. When I was assigned to put the romantic genre in context, I immediately began to think of films that fit into the genre. The most popular ones came to mind first: The Notebook, Titanic, Gone With The Wind. But then I wanted to bring a more recent and somewhat different film into the mix to show the versatility of the categorie. The Holiday fit these criteria by having a witty cast and amazing writers who displayed romance in an awesome way.

What's Romance?

Always Finding Love in North Carolina

All of Nicholas Sparks books find love unexpectedly. The characters never find love when the seek it, instead love finds them. There is always a conflict, as Nicholas Sparks says in his interview, "In all love stories the theme is love and tragedy, so by writing these types of stories, I have to include tragedy. (What would Romeo and Juliet be, for instance, if they both lived happily ever after?)" In his books Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember and The Notebook love does not conquer all. The only book where love beat out all the tragedy is A Bend in the Road. So what does a romance genre need to thrive? Seems to be tragedy.

ROMANTIC MOVIES AND OUR IDEAS ABOUT LOVE

This link provides information on the basic formula for writing a good romantic movie. It goes deeper than just explaining a romantic movie. This website discusses how there are six different lovestyles. One of the six being infatuated love, when only passion is present, another being romantic love when intimacy, commitment and passion are all present. This is typically the style that is written about in movies. When we watch romantic movies we get a sense of what love is supposed to be like, even if never experiencing love for ourselves. The directors try and instill a sense of what love is for everyone, when in reality it varies from person to person."One study, performed on men in India, suggests that married men were more likely to express love for their wives if they had been exposed to movies depicting heroes in love (Derne’, 2000). By identifying with the heroes, the Indian men were able to: (a) break free from the social and parental restraints imposed on them by their culture and (b) feel more comfortable expressing their love for their wives (Derne,’ 2000). " This is an example of how romantic movies can influence our ideas and feelings about love.

Gone With the Wind

When looking on the internet for material that would help put romance into context I kept coming across the film Gone With the Wind (1939). A romance classic about a man and woman involved in a love affair during and after the Civil War. According to the posted link, it is "considered the most beloved, enduring and popular film of all time". This film tells the classic love-hate romance story. This romance film tops the box-office by bringing in over a billion dollars. The film had thirteen nominations and eight Academy Awards. Some of these awards included Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress. This film is a very good example of the romance genre.

Top 100

This link shares with us the top 100 American Romance movies within the last 100 years. Many recent romance movies have tried copy from these movies but have failed harshly. The reason being is because there are not original and the romance genre has basically turned into romantic comedy romance. Romance films mus be original, express emotion, deal with current events and have a sudden heart-brake.

Putting The Romance Into Context

The various authors of this website help to put romance novels into context. They have different subgenres of the romance novels and descriptions of each. It is pretty interesting to read. It is not difficult reading, so check it out. There were a couple of subgenres that are extremely interesting, and I think it would bring up decent discussion questions.

A Happy Ending

The ultimate romantic movie would be Bridget Jones's Diary. It is about a Brit name Bridget, who is determined to improve herself while she is looking for love. But at the end, Bridget found the right guy Mark Darcy but a misunderstanding between the both of them causes Bridget to literally run after the man of her dreams in just her underwear in the cold snowy winter. Romance 101

This article entitles "Romance Movies 101" give a general explanation of what the majority of romance films entail. Although
brief, Romance Movies 101 lists important themes and concepts of romance
films. It is included in this article that most romance films include ,"1. A love affair ; 2. Ardent emotional attachment or involvement between people, especially that characterized by a high level of purity and devotion; love.; 3. A strong, sometimes short-lived attachment, fascination, or enthusiasm for something."
The article goes on to explain that "the definition of a romance movie is not written in stone, rather it's a subjective matter." It also takes into account that "one rule of thumb that applies in 99% of all romance movies is that they must have as their central theme, a romantic attraction between at least two of the major characters." I agree with these statements. Whether the romance film ends as a tragedy or ends happily ever after, everyone perceives a film a different way. Though this particular article does not touch upon the predictably of the romance genre, it goes on to explain "Love stories are often the central or underlying thread in most comedies and dramas." So, no matter how the film ends, everyone should agree that the "integral to any romance film is the ability to move the audience emotionally."

Top 10 Past Romantic Movies

When people think about romantic movies, they think about the most recent ones like No Reservations, and The Notebook, but no one thinks about the ones from the past like Casablanca and Breakfast at Tiffany's. Well, on About.com, Ivana Redwine gives the viewers her list of top ten romantic movies which range from her number one pick Breakfast at Tiffany's to her number ten pick, When Harry met Sally. This articles has the writer's list of favorite movies with a description of each movie which includes the name of the main actors and and a basic plot line of the entire movie. People generally think of romantic movies from the present, but they never think about the true romance movies from the past. These movies might not have the special effects and the happy ending everyone looks for, but these movies are the ones that truly show love and the true struggles of love. These movies are not the ones being made every 5 minutes in Hollywood, these movies took their time to be made so true love could be found.

The link that I have found is all about romace films. The link explores what romance is, saying "affectionate involvement of the main characters (usually a leading man and lady), and the journey that their love takes through courtship or marriage." This link also gives us a list of some of the earliest romance films made. Thomas Edisons twenty second long film in 1896 involving a kiss was very popular, showing that even silent film can show romace. Romantic films seem to have the love not come easy. There is always a turn, a chase, or some glitch in the rode that keeps the main couple fighting for their love.

The 100 Best Romances

Ever wonder what makes a good romance movie? If you have seen any of the movies on the list provided by the link then you probably know. I have linked to a list of the 100 greatest romance films of all time. They were chosen based on the criteria of "their direction, script, acting,cinematography, storyline, originality, and success" and obviously on how "they rate in the subject of 'romance'". Some well known movies on the list include Gone with the Wind, Titanic, and Forrest Gump.

Here is a list of the top 100 Romantic movies, from 1921 to 1996 made by the American Film Institute. Topping the chart at number is Casablanca. The institute has been making annual lists on different themes since 1998. The movies that make the list are chosen by actors, directors, critics, and studio executives. Clicking on the Casablanca link and scrolling to the bottom you will see a review from Tom Keogh on Amazon.com. Tom says, "This is certainly among the most spirited and ennobling movies ever made." It is a great movie and a must have!

Romantic comedies have been getting a lot of attention lately for appealing to a wide variety of audiences with their unrealistic plots and naïve characters, but that’s what makes them appealing. However, Date Movie takes it one step further and exaggerates the parts of romantic comedies that makes them absurd and packs them into one movie that celebrates the lies that romantic comedies have been telling for so long, that the process of falling in love is fun and hilarious. Indie Love Movies-The Best Kind?

I present you the trailer for one of my all-time favorite movies, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This movie should be technically categorized under the "psychological thriller" genre, only because of its mixed metaphors and psychedelic visions, but the main focus is on the weirdest couple most people will ever see. In that case, I feel it is necessary to consider this movie as a good way to emphasize the romance genre as much broader than most reviewers are willing to admit to. The ending is not the cliché "happily ever after," but is presented with more drama and shock quality. It is definitely a movie I would recommend to everyone who appreciates a movie that will make you think, rather than mindless staring at the television while drooling.

Casablanca

As I was searching the romantic genre one of the movies that seem to always come up was Casablanca. The link is a review from Movieweb.com. The reviewer, Christopher Null, gave the movie 5 stars. He talks about the film and how it is very popular, but many people havent seen it. Overall it is one of his favorites. He said that one of the reasons Casablanca was a great movie was because “some of the strongest characters in the history of film” star in it. It is a historial romantic comedy that has been around since 1942.
“So why is it that this particular film has become so popular among people who are usually so strict, that a romantic comedy is now so well respected that the mere suggestion of a Ben Affleck/Jennifer Lopez remake is tantamount to blasphemy? At a guess I would have to say that not only is it one of the few romantic comedies that is both romantic and funny, not only does it feature strong characters and unforgettable performances, but mainly I would say that it comes down to the progression of the films story, because Casablanca tells a story that, like it's main character, is pure nobility hiding itself behind a cynical shell.” Null stated.

Romance Subgenres

The site I have linked to interprets the romance genre in more specific sub-examples. It allows us to give more in depth analysis when describing or trying to identify its counterparts. The site takes us from earlier recognized romance contexts to more modern ones. It also gives definitions for each type of romance's time and place to more specific themes such as religious beliefs.
I have also added another link below, from the same site, that shows the statistics of romance literature. I noted that the section comparing sales to other genres had the romance genre at one of the highest. Too bad films at the box office cannot say the same!

Oh! What a romance?

"The Lake House" is a perfect example of a Romance. Two random people unexpectedly meet and slowly fall in love. All the while they have to go through trials and tribulations. The end results are normally happy but on occasion it can be quite tragic where a lover ends up dying or the two fade apart.

"Ten Romantic Movies"

Here are the top ten most Romantic movies made in the last ten years by Jackie K. Coopper. Jackie says "Romance in the movies today seems to have been replaced by car chases and special effects. Still a good love story will always be in tune with what movie audiences want." I think this will help us remember all the romantic films that have touch our hearts in the past ten years that maybe we forgot about. Begining from number ten counting down to one we see movies such as Meet Joe Black, Somethings Gotta Give, and Peral Harbor. This will help us in putting the romance genre into context.

The Bourne Identity

Jules Brenner points out the obvious in this review of The Bourne Identity.Yes, He does talk about the book and give the author credit for his work. He also mentions that this secret agent film is especially good because of the whole amnesia twist. He raves of the cast, director and characters. And surprise (!) ... he also compares Jason Bourne to James Bond.

Bourne ... and the world today

On a different blog site, I found a post with a person's opinion on "The Bourne Identity," and I agree, but yet disagreed with her views. She believes that Bourne and Bond are not compairable and does not understand how some may even compair the two. Yes, the two characters are very different, but most would agree that Bourne has a heart and feelings just like Bond seems to show. The writter goes on about what she believes is wrong with the movie, she talks about how the characters treat others, too how they do their jobs. Over all, and you can read the post to form more of your own opinion, I think she should give the movie and characters more credit then what she did, obviously society today connects with Bourne if he is even being compaired to Bond.

The Bourne Identity in Roger Ebert's eyes

I've noticed that a few blogs have mentioned that the Bourne Identity was a book too. In this review by Roger Ebert there is absolutely no mention of a novel. All he seems to talk about is the screenplay. Ebert also only criticizes the film for its lack of meaning. However, he does mention how well acted the film is and how good the action sequences are. The only problem? Ebert seems to only be able to blab about what happens in the movie, but then again, that's his job.

Bourne Book not Quite Like Movie

The Bourne trilogy was put into the form of novels by Robert Ludlum, long before Matt Damon's agent sent him a screenplay. This website contains a January 3, 2004 post by someone who enjoyed the movie, THEN the book, and chose to write about them both.

I think it's pretty interesting having only read half of the Bourne Identity book, because he goes on to point out several differences in the movies adaptation of the novel, and seems to favor the original pages more than the pelicula itself. It makes me regret shelving it so early, especially when I typically like books versions better than movies, and by that I mean I'm guilty of reading Harry Potter. Just like you though, admit it.

The Bourne Identity

A. O. SCOTT, a writer for New York Times, wrote this review about The Bourne Identity. She talks about how the plot goes with the novel written by Robert Ludlum . "The story moves swiftly enough to make the time pass pleasantly, and it is not so complicated that you are likely to miss anything if you take a brief nap, wander off to the lavatory or devote your concentration to the difficult task of removing the plastic wrap from your meal. " The actor Matt Damon makes good chase scenes in the movie. "Mr. Damon at first seems too moody and cerebral to be an action hero, but he grasps Bourne's predicament perfectly, and takes it seriously enough to make the film's improbable conceit seem more interesting than it might otherwise have been."

Bourne Identity vs. Bond

Even though the story line for Bourne Identity and Bond is similiar the two characters differ very much. Bond is more of a gentleman, with his suave lady skills and tuxedos. Bourne is more rugged and works in different ways to get the job done, he uses more weapons and shooting instead of physical combat like Bond does. "Bond kills people and then drinks a martini", while Bourne is apologetic towards the end of the movie about killing. Bond is more of a spy while bourne works as an agent for the C.I.A. and is basically anti-spy since he fights the agency that he was employed to. Basically Bourne is the new Bond of our time. A Bond that people our age can relate to. The Bourne Identity is filled with all the action that Bond movies are without all the sex. Jason still falls in love with a women, but we dont see the same kind of "pimpness" that we see in Bond in Jason.

Better than Bond

This is an article which reviews the "Bourne Identity," and compares it to other movies, primarily the "James Bond" series. In his review Rob Blackwelder does a good job of summarizing the "Bourne Identity" and explaining its background. He tells us how the "Bourne Identity" was originally a book written by Robert Ludlum in 1980 and didn't become a movie until 2002, a year after Ludlum's death. He gives us his opinion about the movie and why he believes it to be better than Bond.

Bourne is Supreme in Bourne Identity

The Bourne Identity is one of those movies that is hard to compete with. Its realistic car chases, realistic characters, and realistic situations make it, shall I say, realisic. The movie keeps you enteratined every step of the way because as the review I linked to says, "Most thrillers blow it by both giving away too much information too soon and relying too heavily on stunts and special effects. The Bourne Identity teeters on the verge of doing both, but happily pulls back just as we're about to lose hope". The Bourne Identity Movie

I have heard of the “Bourne” series; however I never saw any of them until this class. As I was watching the movie, I was confused on what was going on, but it was a very good movie. I would watch it again, but just have someone there to explain to me some things.
A review from High-Def Digest gave the overall grade of the movie 4 stars and states the bottom line is just “recommended.” The reviewer, Peter Bracke, gave the high-def extras only 2 ½ stars and the movie itself 3 ½. I think he more so liked the HD video and audio quality. In the review, Bracke said, “When 'The Bourne Identity' finally hit movie theaters in 2002 (a year after Ludlum's death), it had an instant leg up over the aging James Bond movie series. Like Bond, Jason Bourne came with a built-in fanbase, but unlike Bond he was free from the shackles of a then-aging film franchise. Gone were the stale quips, campy villains, and ridiculous gadgets and special effects that strained Bond's modern-day credibility. Instead, by going back to basics and concentrating on what we all love about spy flicks (actual spying!)”

The Bourne Identity

Rodger Ebert thinks that the Bourne Identity was a great movie about nothing. " there are no good guys ... and no bad guys in the movie. Even the people sent to kill Damon are only doing their jobs." I, on the other hand, think that the movie was much more than that. OK, I'll admit that the plot was a little hard to find, but there is one. Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is an amnesiac assassin who spends the entire movie looking for himself, and every time he thinks he's finally gotten everything figured out something pops up and he is back to square one.

The review on Bourne Identity

In this review Jeanne Aufmuth brings up the spy genre. She explains that it is like many other spy movies, but it his a little twist into it. She explains how Bourne had amnesia. She really complements Director Doug on the great effects on the movie. Towards the end of the review she questions the whole plot of the movie, giving both sides of criticism.

Bourne Identity: Jason/Matt

Mark Caro writes a review about the questions raised by audiences from the movie. He stated that the movie makes the audiences inquisitive as to, if Jason Bourne is a spy, assasin, terrorist, or maybe a killer. His actions were quick and smart, though he didn't plan on making the moves that he continues to make. Matt Damon, who played the role of Jason, isn't the toughest hero ever, but his presence in the action scenes makes the movie incredilble.

Richard Schickel, a writer for Time magazine, writes a review about the Bourne Identity. He talks about the impact Matt Damon makes in the film. Schickel says he behaves just as one would in Bournes situation. He also says that Bourne doesnt have much energy for comic quips or romance unlike James Bond. Schickel likes to refer to him as the anti-007.

The Bourne Identity is a wonderful action-packed movie to alot of people. Well, to other's it was just a pointless movie that made no sense. I am surprised that it did so well in the theaters. Here we have a man who don't know who the hell he is and his purpose on this planet. I am not the only one who feels this way Xan Brooks also thinks that this movie is pointless.

Where In the World is Carmen San...erh...Jason Bourne?!

I played this game back in July. We were suppose to find Jason Bourne in one of three countries. We were given all of Google's tools such as its Maps and Search Engine. With these tools, we were to gain clues, and essentially act as CIA agents hunting down Bourne. This was prior to the August release of The Bourne Ultimatum. I didn't find Jason Bourne, but someone eventually did.

It was created in August of 2007 and, like our class, this person has posted a blog reviewing all of the Bourne films. In his review he summarizes by telling us the plot of the films and giving us his observations as well. The Bourne Experience

Rebecca Murray is a movie reviewer from movies.about.com. She gives the movie a B overall. She said that she used the word "killer" which it means great in her words. She says that thins movie made her get into action movies. She comments that "The Bourne Identity" has the benefit of interesting characters, a cast of actors who don't go over the top with their stunts. She also, added about the storyline that keeps on moving, and enough dialogue to make even a non-action/adventure fan like myself pay attention to the film. Murray said the movie was so great that she didn't even look at her watch to see what time it was.
