Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility; do any of those titles come to mind? Most might know those titles because they are all movies, but also they are all well known English language novels written by the beloved Jane Austen. That brings me to the movie I have chosen, Becoming Jane. Film Critic, Roger Ebert, in the “Chicago Sun-Times” on August 3, 2007, made this note about the movie saying “So followers of Austen will know they are watching a fiction. How good is it? Pretty good, in the same way that the movies based on Austen's books are good." In other words, Ebert is saying that while the movies have some great things happening, it is not true to the time period. Some people might disagree, but I know many would have to agree. Beside that negative aspect, Becoming Jane is a fantastic movie! In the movie, the viewer might expect her life to go one direction, and at times it does, but at other times they are most unexpected. I have to admit, if you are looking for a reason to cry, this is your movie. Obviously, the movie tells about the life of Jane Austen. Jane was completely and utterly into here writing career until she meet Tom Lefroy. Both Jane and Tom came from unwealthy families, so when they wanted to keep the relationship going, their families both denied their wishes. The spontaneous, Tom Lefroy, wanted to flee so they could live as they please, contrary, Jane decide to stay and abide by the wishes of her family. As time goes on they both live with sorrow and remorse, in which, Jane writes her six novels. It brings to reality that sometimes no matter how hard you try, you still might lose at the end.
