Favorite movie: Turtles Can Fly
It's very hard to really choose a "favorite" anything because many times you have a favorite in seperate genres and also just depending what you are into at the time. I chose Turtles Can Fly for a few reasons. Though it isn't my all time favorite it really lets you take alook inside a society or culture that most might find revolting mainly because it is a middle eastern foreign independent film. Though the majority of people look past foreign films they are very provocative and make you really look at things differently. Turtles Can Fly is about the lives of turkish children during the envasion of Americans. It lays out what the children have to do just to survive. It is not a documentary because to be honest I know how boring they are and I really dont care to watch them. The film really hits you hard and it deals with issues that most Americans ignore and pretend that they just dont happen simple because it isn't in the U.S. but the realization slaps you in the face. At the end of it it's difficult to identity what you're feeling. It's a combination of hatred, sadness, understanding etc...That's the difference between American films and Foreign films, American films are only about mass appeal and entertainment purposes where as foreign films dive into deep seated issues of the country while still having a compeling screenplay. Here check out the trailer it's worth it. I hope it works!
